Songkran – Thai New Year – is a three day long water fight, probably the biggest one in the world. There are some religious and community rituals involved, but most foreigners just experience it as a giant party. Plenty of Thais do too. Last year we were in Bangkok so this year we decided to go local in Trat and Chanthaburi provinces in the East. We only saw a few other foreigners over all three days. Songkran is ridiculously fun, and anyone who can should experience it sometime.
